Spicy Korean Tteokbokki and Ramen (라볶이)
Spicy Tteokbokki and Ramen
Koreans love spicy foods and street food so rice cakes smothered in hot sauce is a delicious treat found almost everywhere in korea. This dish is called tteokbokki and ranges from mild to extremely spicy. Eggs and green onions are also usually added to give flavour to the dish. Sometimes sausages and other toppings including cheese (cheese tteokbokki is amazing) are added to the dish.
In recent years with thew addition of wheat noodles to korea in the form of ramen or ramyeon noodles another dish was born. Ramyeon is added to teokbokki to make rabokki which is a real delicious treat or dinner!!
Rabokki can be found in most places where tteokbokki is sold. The dish is really interesting the rice cakes and wheat noodles go well together with the spicy korean sauce. Also some times rice is substituted with wheat and "wheat" cakes are used instead. This dish is becoming popular also.
So raboki and tteokbokki can be solely wheat based depending on the manufacturer.
Below is a video of my wife's rabokki:
