The Best Nintendo System for 2018
The Nintendo Switch has been out for over a year at this point and in the past week some amazing games were announced for the Switch. However, the Switch still isn't the best Nintendo system for 2018.The best Nintendo system for 2018 is none other than the DS line. The DS line has been out for over a decade and the new 3DS is still getting some triple A titles. The DS line has a massive catalog of games and apps.
Apps
The 2DS and 3DS line supports YouTube and Netflix which is amazing. Watching videos on a small screen can be tiring to your eyes but occasionally it can be great. It also allows young children to watch videos without hogging the T.V. The parental guides included in the apps and through Nintendo also ensure your children never see videos that they shouldn't see. There are also a handful of other apps that are refined and work flawless for the current DS systems. The Switch is lacking in apps but should be receiving apps sooner or later once the Switch online gets rolling. When the apps are released and refined they will probably run better on the Switch than the DS line but as of now it's anyone's guess when this will be the case.
Games
The Switch has a limited amount of games as its only been out for just over a year. Mario and Zelda are on the Switch and Smash Bros is coming soon. It has also been announced that Luigi's Mansion, Animal Crossing and a Real Pokemon game will be arriving in the future possibly in 2019. Currently Indie games are flooding the switch which is hit and miss but there are some cool titles that could see sequels in the future. The Switch also has some awesome Wii U remakes that are great if you didn't have a Wii U.
The future will belong to the Switch but the DS holds the present (2018).
Size and Portability
The switch however can't be folded which makes a carrying case almost mandatory if you take your Switch outside. The Switch's screen can be scratched easier that a closed DS's so a screen protector is almost a staple for it. The Switch does support a larger screen and a higher resolution so in the future a new folding model could make the switch perfect for HD gaming on the go.
My 2DS Collection (Also Switch Versus DS)
Overall
The Switch has promise and will become a better system as time goes on but as of September 2018 The DS is a better choice if you want to jump into a huge selection of games and apps. The Switch has a handful of great games while the DS has 100's of great games spanning the decade it has been out. I'd recommend a original 2DS for casual gamers and a New 3DS for avid gamers who want to play the new 3DS exclusives.
Gamers who want the best that Nintendo can offer in graphics should get a Switch as the Switch is HD while the DS isn't but the small screen makes the games look almost flawless.
Which system do you prefer currently? Why?
