A Northern Trip to the Lake (Story)
It was just an average August day in northern British Columbia. The mountains and trees whistled in the cool summer breeze. I was stuck behind a desk because of my previous excursion which caused my career path to halt for the time being. It's a long story that I don't want to get into but I will digress that nothing could get me out of that chair except for a freak accident which with my luck happened.
The phone at my office rang and I picked up to a very concerned officer who stated that a camping trip had gone bad and there were three people dead on the beach of an isolated lake only reachable by boat during the summer. I decided that this was an event that I would have to attend. The boat launch was located twenty minutes away from my office. I drove through the countryside and watched the small lakes which all looked the same. After the twenty minute drive I pulled up to the boat launch to the officer and an another person. The other person was identified as an forensic expert. I took my camera and walked to the boat that was located at the end of the dock. It was a small wooden boat that was too big for the three of us.
The lake was again similar to every other lake in the area. Water surrounded by a five to six meter sand beach followed by thirty foot trees so dense you could not see through them. The lake was beautiful and the mountains made it pristine. The boat glided through the water with ease and I loved the air that ran through my hair as we rode to the location of the campsite. The hot sun did cause some discomfort and I knew my skin would hate me later but right now I was focused on the event and what had happened.
We arrived at the site just after four thirty and the smell hit us as we got off the boat. The smell of decomposing flesh can make one hurl without warning if you haven't become accustom to it. I unfortunately had my prior experiences which are for another story and another day. The three bodies were huddled together against a log sitting up right like they died together. I pulled out my camera and started to take pictures of the scene before anything was disturbed. The amount of blood was staggering as I was not expecting it to be a scene out of a horror movie as the bodies looked so peaceful against the log.
The officer approached the body on the right and looked at it. He joked about how it looked like a vampire had bit the neck of this poor sob. The body did have a lot of blood around the neck area. I approached the body on the left and noticed that it too had excessive blood loss around the neck area. The forensic expert was still a good ten feet behind us and let out a blood curdling scream. "The middle body is moving!", he exclaimed. I jumped back and watched the middle body leap up and bite the officer in the neck and then rush the forensic expert. It happened again I pulled out a wooden stake I always carry around and ran to the vicious creature. I staked it in the back while it was still feasting. I then staked the forensic expert, the officer and the two other bodies left at the campsite.
I never get any rest and always happen to come across things one way or another. I took out my camera and finished taking pictures of the scene. I don't know how I'm getting out of this one but I will try to stay in the office more as I am getting to old for all this paranormal, spooky type stuff.
