Bubble Milk Tea Mochi
Outside Box |
Today I review Taiwan Dessert's Mochi Bubble Milk Tea snack. For those not familiar with mochi it is a glutinous rice cake powdered in rice flour/sugar and or other powdered substances (corn starch, potato starch, etc.) The texture of a mochi is generally very sticky to the touch hence the powdered layer around the outside. Mochi can be very chewy and should be carefully eaten to avoid choking. The interior of the mochi can include many toppings including sugar, nuts, red beans, etc. The dessert mochi today contains a bubble milk tea paste with a tapioca ball in the center.
Inside Box |
The inside of the box contained a plastic tray with each mochi being individually wrapped in a cup cake like wrapper. The box contained a moisture pack to ensure that the mochi stayed at the right level of humidity before being eaten. Below you can see the mochi with the powdering siting in the individual wrapper. The mochi was soft to the touch and very spongy. The texture was perfect for a mochi snack.
individually wrapped mochi |
Below you can see the cross section of the mochi. There are three distinct layers. The outer white rice layer, the inner milk tea paste layer and the tapioca ball. Which in the picture below is kinda squished in the middle.
The flavour of the mochi is very sweet and tastes very similar to a cup of milk tea. The rice flavour is apparent but the majority of the flavour is milk tea. The tapioca pearl also provides a faint flavour to the mochi. The mochi was perfectly hydrated and chewy. The outer powdering wasn't too messy and helped with keeping the mochi from sticking to my hands. This is an almost perfect snack for anyone who likes milk tea. The milk tea taste gives the feeling like you are eating a cup of milk tea. For me personally this is delicious. I encourage anyone who likes tea actually to give this snack a try. I'm sure you'll love it.

However, if you are not a fan of tea and rice I'd say this snack isn't for you. The taste is basically tea and it is sticky so you may have to brush your teeth after eating the snack. The texture is a big no no for many people.
I give it a 10/10 as a tea and mochi lover because the only thing better than eating this mochi would be enjoying a fresh cup of hot or cold bubble milk tea.
